  • AGUNSA-SACYR receives the transfer of the new concession of the Arica “Chacalluta” Airport.

    The mayor of Arica and Parinacota, Maria Loreto Letelier, together with Guillermo Beretta, Public Works Secretary, led the ceremony marking the change in the new concession, formed by AGUNSA-SACYR, of the Chacalluta airport, which will be in charge of the expansion, repair, conservation and replacement of the existing infrastructure, equipment and facilities.
    The ceremony, “Transfer of the Public Work denominated as Chacalluta de Arica Airport,” was done at the same air terminal and counted the presence of local authorities, both national and community, an occasion where details were provided of this second concession, where $55 million are to be invested, in order to have a new and larger area that includes sustainable building criteria according to its environment.
    The new installations are necessary to provide airlines, passengers and other users, conditions of service such as comfort and safety, in accordance with those of a regional airport with an international character. In this context, the mayor, Maria Loreto Letelier, stated that, “these works are very important, we have priorities in development with the community and one of these is tourism and therefore, opens many doors for people to reach our region. This is great news, since it is the announcement made by the president for the Airport Modernization Plan.”
    The council for the Ministry of Public Works, Guillermo Beretta, stressed that this initiative is part of the Airport Plan that is being developed by the Ministry of Public Works and the DGAC. “At present, air traffic is growing very rapidly, 10% per year, and this reflects the progress of the country and the emergence of low cost airlines, which opens up opportunities for people to utilize air service.” As data, the authority noted that during 2017, “the airport of Chacalluta, had movements that reached 765 thousand passengers, with a growth of 9.1%.”
    The main works to be carried out are the extension of the terminal building, extension of the main platform, new DGAC facilities, which will include a control tower, SSEI area, electric substation, ARO Air Traffic Information Office, new cargo terminal building, new roads and parking extension, new signage, standardization works and reconstruction of the platform for commercial aviation.
    Among the benefits of this new terminal are facilitating the transport of passenger cargo and integrating the region to a greater extent with the rest of the country; strengthening the offer of flights from and to Arica, by having no restrictions in operations in the airport with regards to passenger service capacity; generate direct and indirect jobs; expand local and regional economic opportunities within South America.
